Great point about Grease! I was thrown by the obviously much older actors playing the characters. I guess that everything about Grease WAS a caricature, extremely exaggerated.

I love the theme....but my movie for a summer's night (or any night) is "That Thing You Do!" The way it encapsulates one summer when pop music ruled promotional shows and the State Fair circuit alike and truly what a "one hit wonder" could be is unforgettable. My personal connection to this movie (and my favorite Tom Hanks role!) is that it saves forever the way the Pomona Fairgrounds used to look as it stood in for all the state fairs across the upper mid-west. And the only social redeeming thing "Grease" had going for it was the music! I always hated the way Sandy had to dress like a tramp to get Danny at the end of the movie! Love Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, but this is one movie there is NO nostalgia about!

What a fun read! And what kind of crazy people don’t like summer?! The only thing I don’t like about summer is that it isn’t long enough. I’m writing this from the swing on my front porch, which I really could not do in the winter.

Thank you for saying Grease is awful. I always thought I was the only one who thought so. Yes, the music is great. No, the plot is terrible and quite misogynistic. The same can be said for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and lots of other old plots. There, I've said it.
