Reading One Good Thing guarantees me a moment to savor. Daily I have my own version of One Good Thing where I find something around me or within myself to savor and reflect, and it has to be so easy I cannot fail, I can always find something to indulge. A moment to look at my sandals and remember where they’ve taken me, the pink petal in a puddle, the awe of bear ears peeking out from berry bushes. One Good Thing feels like I’m being invited into the moments you savor. Thank you.
What lucky girls! They have such support to grow into strong, independent young women! You chose two perfect examples in Kamala and Simone…..and you!❤️
Loved the dripping ice cream cone as our 18 year old granddaughter from Ireland had the same experience trying to eat an ice cream cone in the recent heat. Achill Island Ireland doesn’t get heat!!!
I love this! Amy, you have been a lightouse in my life. I miss your daily column more than you can ever know. I'm the same age as you, l was born in Ithaca, have cousins who went to school with and knew you, I have a passion for children's books and was a school librarian for a few years. And l know about Upstate heat and melting local ice cream. My dad worked at Cornell and we used to get peppermint stick ice cream from the Cornell dairy. I'm looking forward to following your new adventures.
I was also born in Ithaca and my mom's family is from Syracuse, but my parents moved away when I was still a baby so I don't remember much except from trips back to visit my mom's family. Absolutely beautiful country - terribly cold in winter and hot in summer.
Especially loved the shout out to Kamala!
the way you write makes me feel like we're friends! thanks for this tribute to the inspiring Simone Biles

I appreciate your perspective. It's almost always the little things that bring on joy.
Great essay Amy! I miss your column but love your posts here as well!

Too funny!!!
So important to talk about life’s twisties. As always you did a magnificent job of explaining this to all of us. Your writing is magical.
Magical?! That makes me so happy, Marcia. Thank you for being such a faithful and supportive reader.
I love following the Olympics too and am inspired by their example.

Thank you for the informative article! I never made the connection between the twisties and trauma. Simone is such an inspiration.

thanks, as always, for a great post - and thanks for the melting ice cream shot too :-)
Love everything about this!❤️
Love your "Twisties" perspective!
Beautiful family! Go Kamala!
I also miss your column, but this is pretty good. Interesting how you wrote about the twisties, very inspirational. Love the ice cream pics too.
LOVED this and I really appreciated that documentary--the skill and the bravery is astounding. Also that ice cream looks delicious!

A lighthouse. How lovely. Thank you! I'm happy that you're enjoying my occasional slices of your hometown. It sounds like we have a lot in common!
