I’m a shoes on but definitely understand why some would not be. Btw, when you appeared on CBS Sunday Morning, I said “oh, there’s my friend, Amy!” And it occurred to me that is exactly how I feel about you 😄

Shoes on. I have horrible looking feet and I'm very embarrassed about them. I have a pair of slippers in my car at all times that I only wear inside people's houses, and most folks are gracious about that. When I don't have them with me (riding in someone else's car and I forget) I spend the time miserably trying to hide my feet. My rule of hosting is that I want my guests to feel welcome and comfortable. If they want to remove their shoes, fine, but keeping them on is great. Making memories with my friends and loved ones is way more important than keeping my house perfect.

Ok, we are "house shoes" people. We have "street shoes" that come off at the door, and we put on indoors house shoes that never go out the door. Weird, I guess, but it works for us. 😊

Taking off my shoes is as great as taking off my bra. Ahhh, pure bliss!

Shoes on! I’m with you, Amy, on relaxed views on cleanliness. Humans have co-existed with dirt and germs forever.

Plus if I need to defend my stand, I have rheumatoid arthritis with 2 reconstructed feet so shoes feel better on my feet. It actually makes me sad when my adult kids’ friends stop me in my tracks to take off shoes.

I'm a "shoes on" person, as it's simply more comfortable most of the time. In my younger years I was barefoot quite a bit, and I don't mind just wearing socks, but I like the comfort, dare I say "support", that shoes give me. We are in a dusty, dirty, windy area, so sometimes I take off shoes I'm working in outside, as does my husband, and put on a nice comfy pair until going back outside. Have not been in anyone's homes locally where "shoes off" is requested. (We're the current HGTV Takeover Town.)

I am a shoes on in the house woman. I have 2 dogs. I also have a husband & son who don't see the dirt they track into the house or the things they spill on the rugs. My house will never be spotless. I think our immune systems are stronger for experiencing life with some dirt (& whatever else) mixed in. If someone requests no shoes in their house, I will respect their request. To each their own!

On!! My shoes are chosen for that outfit. Removing them ruins the look. This is a new fad that none of us grew up with & we all lived to tell the tale.

Definitely shoes off. Actual organic matter from the ground is one thing, but didja ever notice the stuff you walk through in a parking lot, for instance? Gas and other car chemicals that leak. Eww. I'm not assuming a good rain washes it all away (and really, is the rain pure? No). Bird poop, men's spit and whatever else. Would anyone be willing to lick the bottom of their shoes to prove me wrong? Plus, shoes on means cleaning my floors and rugs more. Yeah, no. Oh, and if you're over a certain age, the more you wear shoes, the more your body loses the ability to balance itself because you've lost your natural contact with the flat surface, so sayeth the AARP mag.

I don't wear shoes in the house because I want the muscles in my feet to work continuously. When it's cold, I wear socks.

I don’t ask guests to take their shoes off but I know some of my bedroom is carpets have felt the impact. But since most of my condo has wood floors, that doesn’t matter

I often assume my host will want my shoes off even if they have wooden floor. I’m easy either way except if I’m weigher heels which I seldom do
