How fun! My husband and I always joked that our lives were perfect when we sang to each other. This all started when we were watching the Sound of Music years ago. Our conclusion was that things were so much better for the Von Trapps when they sang. Best application in our life was when my husband did a karaoke version of "Recipe for Love" by Harry Connick Jr. before he proposed. He said now our lives are perfect. I'm almost motivated to do a special song for our 10 year anniversary next month. Almost... ;-)

You made my day!! ❤️

Pretty great anniversary song! I predict it will supplant “Oh how we danced on the night we were wed, etc. etc.” as the traditional anniversary song go-to.

Thank you, Joan.

You could not have written this more beautifully!

Touched by your performance and your story (I read it in NYT in 2008) Hope you have many years of opera and a grand hotel experience (intruded on your dinner there once as we were celebrating our anniversary with the same plan). Congratulations!

Hi Allison -- I remember you! Happy (mutual) anniversary. I hope our paths cross on that big old wooden porch again, sooner rather than later.

Yes, we celebrated Sunday, 30 years. Sat on the porch earlier this year, lovely place. Enjoy!

Beautiful! I’ve been a column fan for YEARS, and love your books. Your voice, which I’ve never heard, is very different somehow from what I would have guessed. Isn’t that funny! I vaguely thought of Bernadette Peters in The Jerk!

Hi Jenny -- thank you???? I think? (Anyway, re your curiosity about my speaking voice, I've done a ton of radio in my time; you can hear me regularly on NPR's comedy quiz show: Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.

Yes, it was meant as a compliment! You sing beautifully! I’ll check out the show.

Loved this! I’m planning my wedding (postponed from last December) and it’s so hard to look forward to. Not because I don’t love my partner but because these past couple of years seem to have ripped the joy from everything. Your song picked me up!

Hi Robin -- best wishes to you and yours. I hope you put lots of special music into your celebration, and bring it along into your lives together. Take heart -- your joy will make the world just that much better.

Yes, that is one of the things I have had fun with, creating our music list... We bonded over John Prine when we first started dating- Maybe our first dance should be to "In Spite of Ourselves!"

This was wonderfully goofy and lovely! It brought happy tears to my years. I think ukulele singing should now supplant aluminum or tin (I mean, really!) gifts for a 10th anniversary. Congratulations to you both!

I think of my singing as a piece of aluminum, frankly. Fortunately, my hubby has a "tin" ear!

well, there you go - perfect 10th anniversary gift : )

Sweet concert, and kind of amazing that you can do that in ORD and be completely left alone.

I even got a little kid to shoot it for me (which explains the very low angle..)
